Roberta Rankin

Roberta passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Garden Comte Community in Olympia, WA, where she resided. She was born in Raymond, WA on December 19, 1930 to William E. and Edith I. (Nevitt) Briney. Roberta was the first of their five children and all were delivered by their Grandfather Dr. O.R. Nevitt. She attended school in Raymond, WA, graduating from Raymond High School in 1948, working at the \\\Shake Shop\\\" through high school. She married Donald Rankin and they settled in Raymond until his career with Pacific NW Bell took them north. Roberta and Don had 3 children: Dale, Neal and Jill. Roberta worked for the Washington State Horse Racing Commission and retired from the State Dept. of Labor and Industries. Don and Roberta were snowbirds, wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona where they had a large circle of friends and enjoyed shuffleboard and relaxing. They were avid Seahawks Fans, holding season tickets for many years. They resided in Lacey for over 50 years, raising the family there. Roberta is survived by her children Dale (Kelli) Rankin and Jill (Lance) Jauken. She also leaves grandsons Tracy Rankin, Alan (Randi) Rankin and Kyle (Rachel) Jauken. There are five great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter that she was so fortunate to meet. Roberta is also survived by her sister Kay (Chuck) Booth and her brother Nick Briney. Passing away before her were her husband Don Rankin, her parents William and Edith Briney, her son Neal Rankin, and her sisters Wilma (John) Dunsmoor and Gail (Stan) Hatfield. Graveside services will be held at the Fern Hill Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2017. Arrangements are being made by Stoller’s Mortuary.
