Richard Green

February 21, 1933 — March 10, 2014

Richard “Dick†Green died Monday, March 10th, 2014 at the age of 81 at Providence St. Peters Hospital in Olympia, with his wife, Mary K., by his side. He was born February 21st, 1933 to Hilda and Fenton Green in Chehalis, WA. Dick attended Buckley schools through the 7th grade before moving to South Bend where he graduated from South Bend High School in 1951. Following high school graduation, Dick attended and played football at Grays Harbor College prior to serving in the United States Army. After returning to South Bend, he was employed by the Pacific County Engineers Office. In 1957, Dick married Mary K. Watts, and they made their home in South Bend and raised their four children. He was appointed Post Master of South Bend by the United States Postal Service, and worked until retirement after 28 years. Dick was a retired member of the South Bend Volunteer Fire Department, where he proudly served his community. He was also very proud to be a member of the American Legion Honor Guard. Dick enjoyed everything that Pacific County embodies, including hunting, fishing, clam digging, and even the rain to name a few. Dick loved to follow his children and grandchildren in their academic and athletic endeavors. He also was very proud of the 2010 South Bend State Championship football team, as he was part of the only other undefeated South Bend football team of 1950. Dick was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, Johnny Donovan, and sister, Donna Wetterauer. Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary K. who resides at the family home in South Bend, as well as his four children; Brian (Kelly) Green of Monitor, WA, Marla (Steve) Koplitz of Enumclaw, WA, Ron (Jodi) Green of Buckley, WA, and Jerry (Laurie) Green of Naselle, WA. Papa (Dick) is also survived by his 13 grandchildren, who were the joy of his life. Memorials may be made to the South Bend Volunteer Fire Department or the Outreach Committee of St. Lawrence Church (P.O. Box 31, Raymond, WA 98577).
