Margaret Ping

Margaret L. “Peggy†Ping, 76, a life-long South Bend resident, passed away at home on June 15, 2015 surrounded by her husband and four daughters after a three-year long battle with Myelofibrosis, a type of chronic leukemia. Blessed with a true servant’s heart, Peggy found much joy as a member (and past President) of the Pacific Eagles Auxiliary #1443 and the Willapa Harbor Hospital Auxiliary. She also volunteered her time with the Gray Ladies and Willapa Harbor Helping Hands. As a 27-year survivor, she worked with the American Cancer Society’s Reach for Recovery to help other breast cancer patients and participated in numerous Relay for Life events. Peggy was an active member of both the First Baptist Church of South Bend, and more recently, CrossRoads Church in Raymond. She also supported the family businesses, working for 40 years at the H&H Café, and later, at Flowering Hills. In her free time, Peggy enjoyed knitting and crocheting, donating many hats and blankets to preemies, baking her infamous dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls, ceramics, puzzles and playing cards with friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. Peggy is survived by her husband, Gene, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage; her daughters: Sherri (Vyrle) Hill of Olympia, Susie (Larry) Johnson of Hoquiam, Patti (Craig) Coty of Raymond and Jeannie (Duane) Henson of Hoquiam; seven grandchildren: Jamie (Glee) Hill, Kelly (John) Staikos, Chris (Tara) Johnson, Tim (Mara - fianceé) Johnson, Mindy Johnson, Chris (Amber) Coty and Chad (Shanna) Coty; and ten great-grandchildren: Ryker, Rylee, Georgianna, Gabriella, Brianna, Matthew, Justin, Brooklynn and the Coty Twins, who are due October 2015. Peggy is also survived by her two sisters: Shirley Haskell of Olympia and Roberta Harmer of South Bend, her special friend, Jo West, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orval Harmer and Dorothy Harmer Wonhoff, her brother, Walt Harmer, and two great-grandchildren, Colton Allen Coty and Adler Joie Coty. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 1:00PM at the CrossRoads Church, 707 Commercial Street, Raymond, WA.
