February 23, 1935 - March 25, 2016
Lurea Marilyn Morris, 81, of South Bend WA, passed away March 25, 2016 at the Legacy Hopewell House in Portland OR. She was born February 23, 1935 to Morgan and Amy Rice in Yacolt, WA, the third of six kids and the only girl. She graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1953. Brothers Francis (Eunice), of Sacramento CA, Keith (Norma) of Beaverton OR and Robert of Vancouver WA survive her. Brothers Dean and David preceded her in death. She married Wayne Morris in 1953. They were married for 55 years, he preceded her in death in 2008. They raised three children, Mike (Tammy) Morris of South Bend, Tim (Kerry) Morris of South Bend and Linda (Joe) Wooster of Doty. “Grammy†leaves behind 9 grandkids and 12 great grandkids. They were all the most special things in her life and the sun rose and set on each and every one of them. Mom especially loved the many opportunities she had to babysit the grandkids when they were little. In their eyes, there was nothing better than a “grammy day†or a “grammy visit†. They all loved her to infinity and back! Lurea leaves behind many dear, long time friends, many of who helped raise their kids together in their younger years. Friends and family were very important to her and Lurea always put other people first. This characteristic continued into her recent illness. She always replied to nurses and doctors, “whatever is easiest for you†. The words “sweet†and “adorable†have been the words used most often to describe her now and over the years and she was certainly all of that and more. Lurea worked for the South Bend School District for 26 years as an instructional assistant. She was a long time member of the sorority Beta Sigma Phi, Lady Elks of Raymond which she served as Chaplain and was a past Lady Elk of the Year, Bingo volunteer at Willapa Harbor Care Center, “Birthday Club†with her many good friends, in addition to other community causes. Lurea wanted all of her family and friends to know how much she loved them and how important they all were to her in her life. She believed that you back get from life what you give. She said she always felt that she received so much more than she ever gave, which is hard to believe. She unselfishly gave her all to everyone around her. Even at the end when she had life decisions to make, her decisions revolved around her family, she was an unbelievably brave lady and a hero to her family. Services will be held at The Methodist Church in South Bend on Saturday, April 30 at 2:00 pm and a celebration of life will follow at the Raymond Elks. Memorials in Lurea’s name can be made to Randall’s Children Hospital Foundation at PO Box 4484 Portland OR 97208. Please note on check or in an added note that money should go to floors 3 &4 for toys for the kids with cancer. Those checks can also be mailed to Mike Morris at PO Box 816 South Bend WA 98596 and they will be forwarded to the hospital.
