Lois Virginia Buchanan

April 25, 1929 — November 12, 2021

Lois Virginia Buchanan, age 92, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2021. She was born April 25, 1929 in East Raymond, Washington to Fred and Edith (Ellsworth) Caton. Shortly after graduating from Willapa Valley High School, she married Bob Buchanan who preceded her in death in 1997. Lois enjoyed fishing on the Willapa River with Bob and family members. She could often be found crocheting, peeling bark and picking berries. Lois made the most delicious homemade apple and blackberry pies, and enjoyed gardening and canning. Many memories were made camping with family and friends at Lawrence Lake, and there was never a dull moment while raising Rob, Peggy, Steve, and Chad. A trip to Alaska was a favorite highlight of Lois and Bob’s travel adventures. Lois was a fun-loving Grandma that adored her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed watching their sporting events. Lois later became active in the church as a Deacon, and was honored to marry some of her grandchildren. Lois is survived by her sister, Cleora Fisher; her children and their spouses, Rob and Robbie Lynn Buchanan, Peggy (preceded in death by John) Swogger, Steve and Elaine Buchanan, and Chad and Kelli Buchanan. Her grandchildren are Kerie Maneman, Keith Buchanan, Jim Swogger, Lou Ann Rossman, Bob Swogger, Jeremy Swogger, Jamey Buchanan, Jill Terry, Kelli Burkhardt, Cody Buchanan, and Hailey Buchanan, along with 18 great-grandchildren, and fourgreat-great-grandchildren. Siblings Don Caton and Ida Laura Pearson preceded Lois in death. Since Lois was known for shouting out the Willapa Valley Fight Song and cheers at family gatherings, memorial donations may be made to the Willapa Valley Alumni Scholarship, PO Box 128, Menlo, WA 98561. A graveside service and celebration of life will be announced in the spring. Arrangements are in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond, Washington.
