Laurence Stritmatter

Laurence C .(Larry) Stritmatter, past Raymond resident died Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Olympia, Wash.; he was 90. Laurence was born May 13, 1923 in Hoquiam to Andrew and Lucretia (Cattron) Stritmatter. He was raised in Hoquiam where he attended Emerson Grade School and Hoquiam Jr. Sr. High School, graduating in 1941. He then was enrolled in a Boeing sponsored Engineering program at Washington State College. Larry joined the U.S. Navy September 1942 and served aboard the USS Xanthus until December 24, 1945 when he was honorable discharged. He then attended Grays Harbor Business College. Larry married J. June Stone January 19, 1946. She preceded him in death in November of 2011. Larry and June moved to Raymond in 1952 and lived in their home in Riverview until they moved to Olympia in 2006. Larry was employed as a bookkeeper/accountant for Twin Harbors Lumber Company formerly Olympic Hardwood until his retirement in 1979. After retiring he and June traveled frequently in their R.V. He was a life member of the VFW Post #968, 30 year member of the Raymond Elks, Bells and Buoy’s Trailer Club member, and a member of the Raymond Kiwanis Club achieving perfect attendance for making every meeting even while traveling with June. Larry was also part of the Raymond Booster Club, was Pacific County Fair manager for a couple years and served on the Raymond School Board as well as ESD 113 State School Board for numerous years. He had a passion for genealogy, fishing in his spare time and watched all types of sports. Larry really enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He always remembered every birthday date. He will be missed. Larry is survived by a daughter Francie (Dean) Hindman of Grayland, a son Larry Stritmatter and Kerry Morton of Chehalis, son Danny Stritmatter and Mary O’Neil of Ypsilanti, Michigan; nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren as well as numerous step grand and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife June, a brother Clark and sister Glyde. Graveside inurnment services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2014 at the Fern Hill Cemetery in Menlo. A celebration of life will immediately follow at the American Legion in Raymond. Memorials may be made to the Raymond Ambulance Fund 212 Commercial Street, Raymond, WA 98577. Arrangements are in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.
