Judy Smith

July 24, 1950 — January 14, 2021

Judy Smith, 70, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2021 with family by her side. She was loved by many and will be missed tremendously. Judy was born in Burbank, California in 1950. As a young child, her family moved 24 times before settling in Spanaway, Washington. Judy graduated from Bethel High School in 1968. Shortly after high school and obtaining a key punch operator certificate at college, she relocated to Raymond, WA. After arriving in Raymond, she went to work for a local eye clinic where she spent 40 years as an optometric assistant, and served as office manager until her retirement. Through constant training she attained and maintained her “certified paraoptometric” status to better serve her patients. Judy enjoyed helping people with their glasses and contacts, often times at home on the weekends and in the evening. Judy married buck Smith in August 1979 and family meant everything to her. She was a member of the Lebam Community Church, loved traveling, camping, hunting, watching her grandchildren play sports, listening to music, walks with friends, going to the casino and spending time with family. Two of Judy’s favorite travel memories were trips to Italy, one with her daughter Denise and another with her son Craig, both to visit her son Randy who was stationed there. Judy embraced everyone and was known for her sweet demeanor, kindness and warm smile. Judy is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Buck Smith, and 3 children: Randy Sexton of Virginia; daughter-in-law Kendra Booher; Craig and Melanie Sexton of Oakville; and Denise and Andy Portmann of Raymond along with seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers: Ron Kellogg and Del (Carolyn) Kellogg of Tacoma, WA and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Loretta Kellogg. The family intends to hold a Celebration of Life service in the spring at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Research or Willapa Harbor Helping Hands.
