Iola Marie Davies

October 3, 1932 — February 7, 2019

Iola Marie Davies (Holt) passed away February 7, 2019 at the age of 86 years old. She was born by the river in South Bend, WA in a little yellow house her father built (across the street from where Bud’s Lumber currently is located) on October 3, 1932 to Herbert and Grace Holt. When she was two years old, the family moved to the Smith Creek area, five miles outside of Raymond. In 1949, she married her childhood sweetheart and neighbor, John Davies. They raised 4 children on a 10 acre piece of Smith Creek land located between both of their sets of parents. Iola was a homemaker until her mid-thirties when she took a position as the parts manager at the local Ford dealership. In 1971 she and John purchased a Western Auto dealership in Raymond, successfully operating it until 1980. When John’s health began to fail, they sold the store and Iola went to work in Aberdeen as a bookkeeper at Harbor Home Health. At 62, she retired and moved with John to Lacey, WA to be closer to a larger health care system. She lived in the Lacey area 20 years. Most recently she lived in Everett, WA to be closer to her daughters. Iola had the wonder lust for travel and cruising, traveling to many places on 4 continents. She also enjoyed excellent culinary skills, especially pie making. She loved reading and discussing family history. Her Christian faith was important to her and she instilled a good solid faith base in her children. Iola is preceded in death by, her husband John, her parents, Herbert and Grace Holt, her son John, Jr and her brother Orrin Holt. She is survived by her daughters Connie Schmit (Dan) and Lorrie Glover, son Colyn Davies (Kathy) and sister Anita Smith. She had eight grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, one great- great grandchild and a large number of nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at the First Baptist Church, 913 Duryea Street, Raymond, WA, Friday February 15, 2019 at 1:00pm. Burial at Fern Hill Cemetery in Menlo to follow.
