Edwin Dennett

February 9, 1925 — January 2, 2014

A wonderful father, grandfather, husband, Scoutmaster, Fireman, Civil Servant and friend returned home on Thursday, January 2, 2014 in Vancouver, Washington. Gene was born February 9, 1925 in Caldwell, Kansas to George and Mabel (Drake) Dennett. He was raised in Corbin, Kansas before moving to Toledo, Washington where he graduated high school. Gene also lived in Chehalis before moving to Raymond in the early 1950’s. Gene served in the Army and was honorably discharged February 2, 1946. He also served for the National Guard in Washington State and was discharged April 10, 1953. He had many jobs including the Raymond Fire Department, owned and operated Gene’s Repair and was shop foreman for Pacific County working on heavy equipment for some time. Gene enjoyed being a leader for Boy Scouts of America for 40 years; he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President of the Willapa Harbor Public Employees Credit Union for 10 years; also volunteered for the Pacific County Search and Rescue team and was a past president for the local Red Cross. He loved auto racing, mechanics, camping, and restoring antique automobiles in his spare time. He also loved traveling, visiting the British Isles, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and China. Gene is survived by sons Rodney Dennett of Arkansas, Jeffrey Dennett and David Dennett, both of Vancouver, WA; step daughters, Melanie Davis of Oregon and Wendy Manlow of South Bend. He is also survived by a sister Margery Robbins of Washington. Gene was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Haines and daughter, Debora Dennett Whitmer. Before embarking on any journey, we like to have some assurance of a round-trip ticket. Returning from earth to life in our heavenly home requires passage through the doors of death. We were born to die and we die to live. We barely blossom on earth; we fully flower in heaven. He is free again. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Raymond. Burial will follow at the Lakebay Cemetery in Lakebay, WA. Memorials may be made to the Raymond Fire Department Ambulance Fund at 212 Commercial Street, Raymond, WA 98577. Arrangements are in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond, WA.
