Earnest Johnson

Earnest “Earnie†Calvin Johnson a longtime Raymond resident, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016 at his home; he was 91. Earnie was born September 6, 1925 in Ava, Missouri to James Harvey and Bertha (Williams) Johnson. As a young man, he moved from Missouri to California where he began working in Dairy Farms. While visiting relatives in Raymond, Earnie quickly fell in love with the area. Shortly after, he decided to relocate his family to Washington State, looking forward to the great Pacific Northwest outdoor activities including hunting and fishing. He began working for Weyerhaeuser in 1967. Earnie also held many side jobs including Coast Oyster, as well as milking at various local dairy farms. He retired from Weyerhaeuser in 1986. Earnie enjoyed spending his time fishing and hunting with his sons and grandchildren. His other passion was gardening, he would truly look forward to planting and tending to it year after year. No one could grow potatoes like Pop! Earnie is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Wanda L. (Duckworth) Johnson. They were married August 10, 1948 in Yuma, Arizona. He is also survived by two sons, James (Barbara) Johnson of Raymond and Randall (Deborah) Johnson of Bothell; four grandchildren, Danny Johnson, Stephen (Christina) Johnson, David (Taryn) Johnson and Krystal (Jeffrey) Daw; eight great grandchildren, Dustin (Sarah C.), Brandon, Hannah, Sarah Michelle, Noah, Caleb, Katelyn and Colin, and one great great grandson, Eli. Earnie also leaves behind several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy Johnson, Eugene Johnson and William Norman Johnson as well as a sister Alice Lucile Roy. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2016 at Fern Hill Cemetery in Menlo. A luncheon will follow at New Life Fellowship Ministries in Raymond.
