Dorwin Fosse

Dorwin N. Fosse, a lifetime South Bend resident died Sunday, March 29, 2015 at his home; he was 91. Dorwin was born February 1, 1924 at South Bend, WA to John and Louise (Lande) Fosse. He was a South Bend High School graduate. Dorwin served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action and a Purple Heart when he was wounded in action in the South Pacific on February 16, 1945. Dorwin spent his entire career working at the South Bend Boat Shop that his dad established in 1926. Throughout the years he built numerous fishing boats. Dorwin’s son, Chris, took over the family business when Dorwin semi-retired in 1987. Dorwin was an avid reader, turned wooden bowls and lamps on his lathe, always kept up with activity on the waterfront, and enjoyed his daily walks. Dorwin believed in putting faith, family and friends utmost. He was a lifetime member of the South Bend Baptist Church. Dorwin married Delores May 5, 1951 in South Bend; she survives him at the family home. He is also survived by two sons, Todd (Elaine) Fosse of Raymond and Chris (Sandy) Fosse of South Bend; a daughter Anne (George) McNelly of South Bend; 6 grandchildren, Kelly (Marty) Waltman, Brian Fosse, Mitchell Dean, Nick (Jessie) Fosse, Megan McNelly, and Leigh McNelly; 4 great grandchildren, Hunter, Brayden, Brenton, and Kason. A sister Agnes Steuer and a brother Arnold Fosse both preceded him in death. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the South Bend Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Willapa Harbor Helping Hands or a charity of your choice. Cremation arrangements were in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.
