Derik Nissell

December 30, 1991 — February 29, 2016

Derik, our beloved son, little brother, uncle and friend passed away on Monday, February 29th. Derik was born on December 30th, 1991 in South Bend, WA. He graduated from South Bend High School in 2010. Derik was employed at Westport Shipyards as a welder. Derik enjoyed riding dirt bikes from a very young age and also had a passion for music, ranging from country and rap to classic rock, he attended many concerts with Mark and friends. Derik also loved the outdoors, duck hunting with brother Chris, fishing with brother Kevin and deer hunting with both. Derik was a sports fan and enjoyed going to as many Mariners baseball games as he could with his parents. Derik got his love of baseball from his beloved Grandma Jo and he had played catcher throughout his youth. On game days Derik could be found cheering on the Seahawks. Derik had a kind soul and would be there for anyone who needed his help. Derik enjoyed volunteering and giving back to his community. This began in grade school, by pulling his wagon around the neighborhood with his friends collecting for the annual food bowl. His class always won by the way. He continued that giving spirit throughout his life helping with various local fundraisers and the South Bend Labor Day celebration. Derik was very much a family man and was not just our son and brother, but one of our very best friends. Uncle Derik cherished time spent with his niece and nephew and was looking forward to the arrival of a new nephew this summer. He had a beautiful smile and a great sense of humor. Derik is survived by his parents Joyce and Mark Kidd. Brothers Kevin Dickey (Amanda) and Chris Nissell (Megan), nephew Grayson Dickey, niece Lilly Nissell, Uncle Dick DeMaris (Kathy), Aunt Nancy Germeaux (Rick), cousins Natalie Germeaux and Danielle DeMaris and numerous other relatives. Derik was preceded in death by his father Steve Nissell, Grandma Jo and Grandpa Curly, uncles Terry and Don. His wings were ready but our hearts were not, now there is another angel in Heaven watching over us. A celebration of life will be held on March 12th at 1 pm at the Raymond Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Kids on the Willapa, the Willapa Harbor Baseball Association or the charity of your choice. Arrangements were in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.
