Charles Magee

Charles James Magee, a Raymond resident died Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Montesano Health & Rehab Center; he was 90. Jimmy was born May 1, 1926 in Raymond to Charles and Ruby (Currie) Magee. As a child, Jimmy was raised in Nemah with his parents and sister, Florence. In 1944, he left Naselle High School to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in the Philippines where he served as Seaman First Class. After his honorable discharge on May 17, 1946, he returned to Nemah. He met Verlie Prior and they married in 1949. In 1950 they had a daughter, Linda Jean. February 19, 1953, Verlie Magee passed away following a long illness. In the early 1960s, Jim married Ada Lou. Soon after becoming married, the two of them and Ada’s children Sue, Robert, Diane, and Vicki moved to Thorne Bay, Alaska where Jim worked as a scaler with a logging company from 1965-1975. After leaving the logging industry in Alaska, he and his family returned to South Bend. During his time in South Bend he worked as in the oyster industry, eventually owning and working his own oyster beds. Jimmy was a member of the American Legion Post #150. He enjoyed collecting guns, hunting and fishing, old western movies and his white cat, Spooky. Jimmy is survived by his daughter Linda Mayfield and family of San Luis Obispo, CA, his sister Florence Sailor and family of Morgan Hill, CA, 8 grandchildren Amy, Terica, Trevor, Mike Brenda, Sean, Adam and Brandon; 10 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Jimmy is also survived by a special friend Mick King of Raymond. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2016 at Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond where full military honors will be accorded.
