Betty Redding

September 3, 1922 — March 3, 2017

Betty A. Redding passed on March 3rd, 2017 at the Alder House in South Bend, WA while surrounded by family. She was 94 and 1/2 to the day at the time of her passing. Betty was born in Old Willapa on September 3rd, 1922 to her parents Sam and Edna Walden. She was the first of 4 generations to graduate from Willapa Valley High School in Menlo WA. After graduation, she moved to help support the war effort by building Liberty ships as a welder’s helper. After the war, she moved back to the Old Willapa area where she was employed by the school district then as a live-in caretaker and finally as a nanny for local families. She was well known in the Willapa area for riding her three-wheeled bicycle through the neighborhood, her Halloween costumes, and the hats she loved to wear. She will be remembered forever by her family for her peanut butter cookies, nanaimos, pickled pea salad, her love of collecting recipes, big smiles, and family holidays at Grams. Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Valerie and Ted Stenholm of Long Beach, WA; her daughter Vickie Redding of Oroville, WA; and her son Vern Redding of Thorne Bay, AK; seven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her sister Edna (Eddie) Mae, her son Vaughn, and two grandsons, Noel and Jim. Betty will be buried at Fern Hill Cemetery in Menlo, WA on March 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Following the burial there will be a celebration of life at the United Methodist Church in Old Willapa, with a potluck immediately after. All are welcome to attend and encouraged to wear purple and their favorite hat as she would like that. If you don\\'t have a hat she provided them for you. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name at any Great Northwest Federal Credit Union to help in these unexpected circumstances. Arrangements are in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.
