Alan V. Nevitt, a lifetime Raymond resident, died Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Wash; he was 88. Alan was born November 4, 1930 in Raymond, to Leslie and Irene (Vaughn) Nevitt. After graduating from Raymond High School in 1948, he married Mildred Rutherford July 15, 1950 in Coronado, CA; she survives him at the family home in Raymond. Alan joined the U.S. Navy in 1948, serving as an Aviation Store Keeper 3rd Class until his honorable discharge in 1952. Alan worked for Weyerhaeuser from 1952 until 1964 when he began working for the Raymond Post Office, until his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed his time spent riding motorcycles, watching sports and family camping trips in the R.V. Alan cherished memories made with his children and grandchildren. He most especially enjoyed coffee hour at the Port with Dawn and watching Les, Doug and Dawn drag race. He was a member of many clubs and organizations including the Willapa Harbor Credit Union, where he was an original board member, the Raymond High School board for 12 years, ESD #113 for 20 years, the Lions Club, the Masons (Past Master), The Raymond Elks, The American Legion Post #150 (Past Commander and Past District Commander), and the VFW Post #968 serving as a lifetime member. Alan is preceded in death by his parents and by his sister Barbara Eastman as well as a grandson, Benjamin Ashe. He is survived by his wife Mildred; two sons, Les (Jan) Nevitt of Gig Harbor, and Doug (Carolyn) Nevitt of Graham. Also surviving him are four daughters; Dawn King (Jayson) of Raymond, Melanie (Ric) Zassenhaus of Olympia, Marilynn (Dennis) Curl of McCleary, and Rosslynn Glazier (Michael) of Port Angeles. Also surviving him are 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren with twins on the way, and by 2 great great grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Willapa United Methodist Church or Willapa Ladies Aid at 969 Willapa First Street, Raymond, WA 98577. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the Fern Hill Cemetery in Menlo where local Military Honors will be accorded; a gathering will follow at the Willapa United Methodist Church in Raymond.
